How did you start creating the Hopper tie?
In Lithuanian, the traditional bowtie is called varlytė (small frog) or peteliškė (butterfly). My clients initially called my creations žiogas (grasshopper), and that name soon caught on. Grasshopper is associated with nature and families - young children in Lithuania are often called grasshoppers (žiogeliai). We’ve shortened the name to Hopper for international markets. Initially, I was creating women’s accessories, but wanted something with broader appeal. So, I experimented with different textiles and styles and created the first Hopper tie for my husband. Now both women and men can choose the Hopper tie which best suits them. (DraugasNews by Irena Kriaučiūnienė)
